Signing of the Declaration of Independence

John Morton (1725-1777) was one of the nine signers from Pennsylvania who participated in signing this treaty. Unfortunately, John succumbed to an inflammatory fever and passed away at Ridley Park in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

Congress adopted the Declaration on July 4, 1776. The document, likely an engrossed or parchment, was likely written by Timothy Matlack. The 56 members of the Second Continental Congress signed the document primarily on August 2, 1776.
